How and why did I end up as supply sgt in A company 2nd/2nd Mech the fall of 1967. Not a long story but like many atories rather complicated.
How to change your MOS without ever trying
Left Vietnam Feb 67, flew into Calif caught the Train to Tacoma called the wife and then a taxi home about 3 am. A rather cool reception from the wife which I didn't understand until a few hours later and my oldest daughter came downstairs.
Her very 1st words "Daddy are you going to beat up Mommies boyfriend" Once in grade school a girl walked up to me and hit me in the solar plexus as hard as she could. My daughters question was harder than the blow in grade school.
Oct 1967 I landed in Di Ann with orders right back to my old unit (charlie Co 2nd/28th.
At Dia Ann I was told the 2nd /28th was full strength but the 2nd/2nd needed men. Ok once I get to Lai Khe I can get back to Charlie company.
A few days later I'm reporting in to the 2nd/2nd. Later I found out that someone in Di Ann had called my new sgt Maj and told him a crazy buck sgt on his 2nd tour was on the way. Not to sure what my state of mind was. I'd lost my family and like a old whore I didn't give a fuck for nothing.
The Sgt Maj I suspect had seen guys like me before, anyone He told me one of his supply sgts had went home on emergency leave and would be back in about 4-5 weeks, could I run the supply room till I got back? Never did see a job I couldn't do and that is how I became a supply sgt.
Long story short I stayed with the 2nd/2nd about 8 months and then transferred to the 458th PBRs for another 18 months
I'd never heard of the singer TOM T HALL but he wrote "girls of Saigon City" song for me
